Try this Pakistani Arvi Gosht, where meat and arvi are cooked in a spicy curry. Pair it with Roti (Chapati & Phulka) or Boil Rice. Here is how to make it.

Arvi means “Taro root” and Gosht means “meat”, which means arvi, and ghost, both are cooked together in a rich and deeply flavored curry/gravy to prepare Arvi Gosht It is super easy to make, needs simple ingredients, and comes together in under 50 minutes.

It is popular in Pakistan and is served along with chappati.

I am sharing the methods to cook it in a traditional stovetop.

Arvi Gosht, or meat with taro root curry, is one of the popular dishes among cuisines from the Indian subcontinent such as Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.

The dish is traditionally enjoyed as a dinner meal. It’s a delicious meat curry to have with rice that is often served plain Jeera rice recipe (Cumin Rice Recipe) And traditionally, that is how most people enjoy Arvi and meat curry.

This arvi Gosht is a simple flavorful curry made with onion-tomatoes-based gravy fresh herbs and fragrant spices. This is a quick and tasty one-pot Taro root curry. The recipe is also non-vegetarian.

A combo of Boil Rice and this delicious are ghost would be comforting and today it is one of my favorite meals. You can also make Arvi Ghost in a stove-top pressure cooker or the Instant Pot. 

INGREDIENTS Substitute

Mutton: Wash and clean the mutton well, before cooking it. You can use lamb as well.

Ginger-garlic paste:- store-bought or homemade.

Spices: Most of the spices are basic like red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt.

Oil: I used neutral-tasting vegetable oil.

Tomato Paste:I have used homemade Tomato Paste (Homemade Tomato Paste).you can also used canned tomatoes puree.

How To Make Arvi Gosht?

Heat 1/4 cup of oil. Let the oil become hot. Then add 2 medium-sized finely chopped onions. Mix Sauté stirring often till the onions turn translucent.

Arvi Gosht

Add 1 tablespoon of Ginger Garlic Paste (adrak lasan paste) and saute for a few seconds. Then add meat and fry on high heat for 4-5 minutes.

Add the following listed powder spices:

Red chili powder 1 tbsp

Salt 1 tsp

Turmeric powder 1 tsp

 Mix and stir. Let the spices coated in meat.

Add 2 cups of water and cook till the meat is almost done.

Arvi Gosht

Add 1 cup of Tomato Paste (Homemade Tomato Paste) and cook for 2-3 minutes. until oil starts to separate from the sides of the cooking pot.

When the meat is thoroughly cooked and almost tender, you can add in the arvi pieces ,then add 1 cup of water and Continue cooking with the lid on at low heat until the arvi are fully cooked. 

Garnish with chopped coriander.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 Cup Cooking Oil
  • 2 Medium sized Onion chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1 Tbsp Red chili powder
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Tomato paste
  • 250 Gram Arvi Taro root
  • Chopped Coriander leaves for garnish
