Chana Chaat ( Chickpeas Salad) is a delicious Pakistan street snack that is made using boiled black chickpeas, fried onion, and hot spices. Black chickpeas are healthy and a great source of protein.

For this kala chana chaat, I boiled the black chickpeas stove tot. I soaked them for 4 hours and then cooked them for 1 hour on medium heat. They were softened.

Here’s all that I added to my chana Chaat – fried onion, lemon juice, chilies, cilantro, mint, and homemade chana masala.

Chana Chaat or chickpea salad is my favorite food as it contains so much nutrition. It is gluten-free, low in carbohydrates, and high in protein.

This dish is very easy to make and an amazing make-ahead salad. So make it in advance as meal prep and use it for lunch, and picnics, Enjoy!

Black Chickpeas: Also known as kala chana protein. In Hindi, Kala means “Black,” and Chana means “Chickpeas”, so kala chana translates to “Black Chickpea.”

Lime juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice tastes the best.I used the juice of two lime. You can Increase or decrease according to your preference.

Homemade Chana Masala: I have used 2 tbsp of homemade Homemade Chana Masala (chole masala).

Other Spices: I have used 1 tsp of turmeric powder, and 1 tsp of salt.

Fried Onion: I have used 2 tbsp of homemade Fried Onion (Birista French’s onions).

Herbs: Use fresh cilantro. Make sure to chop them just before using them for maximum freshness.

Vegetable Oil: Use good quality vegetable oil for the best flavor.

What is Chana Chaat?

Chana chaat, also known as chickpea salad, is a popular Pakistan street food dish made using boiled black chickpeas, fried onions, lemon juice, homemade chana masala, and fresh herbs. It can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or salad.

How To Make Chana Chaat?

Wash and soak 1 cup of black small-sized chickpea and 1 tsp of soda in water for 4 hours. After 4 hours drain the water, add water and salt, and cook for 1 hour on medium-low heat until softened. Once the chickpeas are boiled.

Add 4 tablespoons of cooking oil and fry well.

Then,Add,2 tbsp of Fried Onion (Birista French’s onions),1 tablespoon of homemade Homemade Chana Masala (chole masala)

Then,add 1 tsp of turmeric powder,1 tsp of salt and mix well .

And cook for 5 minutes.Turn off the stove top.

  • 1 Cup Black chickpeas
  • 2 Tbsp Fried onion
  • 4 Tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp Homemade Masala
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
