Chana Daal is a delicious and healthy dish that is perfect for rice. A warm and comforting dish with the goodness of lentils, tomato, and mild spices. Tempered with chilies, onion, garlic, and cumin seeds. Season with fresh coriander leaves and a generous squeeze of lime.

Follow my instructions with pictures to make a perfect chana Dal. Chana Dal is a Hindi Word for Split Yellow Gram. I am making the dal on the stovetop.

Chana Daal is the taste of the most favorite South Indian Daal recipe. A simple yet impressive Chana daal recipe made using Split Yellow Gram lentils, and tomato-based sauce. One of the most loved Indian lentil recipes, this dal chana is absolutely sensational.

Lentils are healthy, delicious and inexpensive, high in protein, making them an essential ingredient of any vegetarian or vegan diet. They are also a healthier substitute for meat. In addition to protein, lentils are rich in dietary fiber, folate and iron.

How to make Chana Daal

Cook Dal

Take 1 cup of chana dal into the bowl. And transfer into the bowl.

Then add water and wash the dal and soak it for 30 minutes (depending on your dal quality) and drain all the water and then add it to a cooking pot along with pour 4 cups of water.

Then add 1 1/2 tablespoons of coriander powder.

And add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder.

Then add 1 teaspoon of cumin powder.

Then add 2 tablespoons of red chili powder. (According to your spiciness).

Next, add 1 teaspoon of black pepper powder along with salt to taste.

Now add 1 teaspoon of ginger, and 1 teaspoon of garlic paste.

Finally, add chopped tomato.

Cover and cook for 25 minutes on low heat.Until the daal is tender.

When the dal is tender and the tomato is mushy.

Stir well. Add 1/2 cup of water according to your consistency.

Tempering (Tadka)

Pour oil into a pan and add sliced onion, chopped green chili, and garlic, and fry.

Now add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and let them sizzle.

Tadka is ready.

Now transfer to the cooked dal.

Chana Dal is ready to Serve with Boil Rice and Kachumber Salad (Indian Salad) by the side.

  • 4 Cups Water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Coriander powder

  • 2 Garlic Cloves Chopped
  • 1 Small-Sized Onion sliced

  • 1/4 Cup Oil
