Masoor Dal khichdi
Lentils and rice come together in this traditional recipe. A perfect one-pot meal, easy to prepare with all the essential nutrients and surprisingly light thus considered to be a comforting food, particularly in eastern and northern India. With a few ingredients and a few spices, you are ready to have a delicious yet quick meal.
What Is Khichdi?
The word Khichdi comes from the Sanskrit word “Khicca” meaning “rice and cereals. It is a simple dish consisting of made from rice and lentils.
It is a very healthy recipe – so much so that in India when someone is a stomach problem like motion, constipation, and acidity Khichdi is often.
In individualized, kids or recovering adults are often recommended this diet because it is nutritious and easy to digest because of its nutritional value, easy digestion, and can be made dull without spices. However, it can also be used for breakfast, lunch or dinner!
what are the ingredients required to prepare khichdi?

- Masoor Dal (Lentils)
- Onion
- Ginger Garlic Paste (adrak lasan paste)
- Spices
- Water
How To Serve Masoor Dal khichdi?
Always khichdi is served hot with a side with Raita Recipe. But most people eat it with Tomato Chutney With Tempering,keema on the side.
Moong dal khichdi is best enjoyed with a generous amount of ghee topping along with raita, mango pickle, and chopped onions on the side.
How To Make Masoor Dal khichdi?
Pick and wash the 1 cup of rice and the 1/4 cup of masoor dal, and soak together in water for 1/2 an hour, at least. Drain and keep aside.
Now heat 4 tablespoons of cooking oil,then add 1 small-sized chopped onion saute until the onion golden.When the onion have become golden in color,then add 1 tablespoon of homemade Ginger Garlic Paste (adrak lasan paste).
Stirring well and then add 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder.
Next,add the drained rice and lentils, and saute over high heat, well mixed and till the stick the rice and lentils in the bottom.
Add salt according your taste and mix well too.
Now Pour 2 cups of water.
And bring to a boil, cover the pot on a medium flame Lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, by which time the khichdi should be cooked.
The lastly photo below khichdi is cooked when the rice and lentils have the excess water has evoporated.Remove the pot from the heat.
Serve the khichdi with Mixed Vegetable Raita

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Rice You can add any regular short rice and broken rice
- 1/4 Cup Red Lentils (Masoor Dal)
- 2 Cups Water
- Salt as required.
- 1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 Small-sized Onion finely chopped
- 1 Tsp Ginger Paste
- 1 Tsp Garlic Paste
Instructions
