Karela Sabji is easy to make a vegetable dish made with Bitter Gourd and Indian powder spices. It is also knowns as Bitter Gourd Recipe. Karela is a Hindi word for Bitter Gourd.It goes well with chappati.

Bitter gourd is high in dietary fiber and is a perfect source of vitamins and minerals that help the body stay healthy. The vitamins include A, B, B1, B2 B3, and C.

Bitter melon is made up of a mixture of flavonoids and alkaloids which aids the pancreas produce insulin that controls blood sugar levels.

Bitter gourd helps in easy digestion as it contains fiber. The food is digested and the waste is thrown out of the body which helps in curing indigestion and constipation problems.

Bitter melon helps in cleansing or detoxifying impurities in the blood and is beneficial for the treatment of blood disorders like blood boils and itching due to toxemia.

How to make karela sabji

Scrape the rough skin of the bitter gourd and cut it into cubes. Mix 1 tsp salt into it and keep it for at least 15 minutes. Squeeze out the liquid thus formed.

Heat 5 tablespoons of cooking oil in a heavy-based pan, fry the bitter gourd over high flame, to a light brown.

Remove with a slotted spoon.

Add, add chopped onion, 1 teaspoon of ginger, and garlic paste and keep stirring and fry them until lightly golden.

Add chopped tomatoes along with 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Then, add 1 tablespoon of coriander powder.

Add 1 teaspoon of cumin powder.

When they are cooked tomatoes, add them along with 1 teaspoon of red chili powder, and mix well.

Once this masala is cooked well and starts leaving oil on the sides, add the fried karela and mix well.

Turn off the heat.

Serve.

  • 1 Tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt

  • 1 Tbsp Coriander powder
