Gujiya Recipe (Hyderabadi methi gujiya with kheer) is a lovely and well-known dessert with a crispy from outside and soft inside and sweet stuffing made with grated coconut, poppy seeds, almond, pistachio, and sugar is stuffing inside it is a delicious, deep-fried gujiya Recipe.

Usually, the shape of the Gujiya is a half-moon shape, but you can make any shape depending on your preference.

What Is Gujiya?


Gujiya is a traditional Hyderabadi Mithai make dough with all-purpose flour, semolina (suji), ghee, and milk. Stuffing with a sweet made with grated coconut, white poppy seeds, almond, pistachio, and sugar.

It is deep-frying until they become golden and crispy from outside they are dipped into the kheer.

Ingredients for Gujiya


Dough Ingredients

All-purpose flour 4 cups

Semolina 1 Cup

Salt 1/4 teaspoon

Ghee 8 tablespoons

Lukewarm milk as needed

Stuffing Ingredients

Shredded coconut 2 Cups

Poppy Seeds 1/2 Cup

Cardamom powder 1 tsp

Sliced pistachio 1/2 Cup

Sliced Almonds 1/2 Cup

Sugar 1 Cup


Prepared Dough

Sift 4 cups of All purpose flour in a bowl,add 1 cup of semolina 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 8 tablespoons of ghee to the mixing bowl using your hand,rub the ingredients until the mixture it crumbles.

Gradually add lukewarm milk & knead until dough is formed,but not sticky grease with ghee,cover the dough with a moist kitchen clothe and set aside for 2 hours.

Prepared stuffing

In a bowl,add 2 cups of shredded coconut,1/2 cup of poppy seed,1 teaspoon of cardamon powder,1/2 cup of sliced pistachio,1/2 cup of sliced almonds and 1 cup of sugar and mix very well & set aside.

Shaping The Gujiya

Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Cover the rest of the dough balls with a kitchen cloth and set them aside. 

Take one ball and roll it into a 5-inch disc. Place a 2 tablespoon of prepared filling in the center of the rolled-out dough. Fold it into a half-circle. Seal the edges by pressing it. If you have gujia mold then use that.

Frying The Gujiya

Heat ghee in a deep pot. Once the ghee is melt and hot, gently slide in the prepared Gujiya and deep-fry them until golden brown.Once the Gujiya is almost fry, the remove immediately and set them on a paper towel.

Serve with rice-kheer-recipe.
